About 15km away (don't know what that is in miles). About 15 minutes drive. The 90 will go with but when the 180 is setup and running everything will be transferred to it and I'll just have the 180. Two tanks is a headache

So, I'd like to toot my own horn ;) I am tank of the month on another forum. I wasn't sure about leading others away from here to another forum (well the TOTM page of another forum anyways) so mods, if you see this and don't like, just delete it :D

I didnt know you made your own ballasts. You should show everyone how to do it.

Thanks! LOL, my dad is an electrician so we put them together. That was about 6 years ago and my electricity smarts haven't stayed with me since. Mind you I did swap out the ballasts for new ones a couple of years ago (H37s to M58s) but still, I just followed the wires and there was a lot of swearing involved :P

Yeah I hear ya. I was certainly scared of plugging it back in after swapping out the ballasts. I had my roommate at the ready with the broom to turn off the breaker if needed. We had a good old laugh at that one :rotfl:

Hey Christy what are you doing in preparation for the tank on the big move?

Not much so far. I've been dealing with various issues in the tank: my dosing pump just shot a half gallon of randys magnesium mix into the tank so god knows what my mag levels are as they were already at about 1450, couple of my fish have been nipping 4 of my 5 clams pretty badly to the point that I removed them to the LFS for a month to heal. Guess what happened on reintroduction? Oh whee. So now I have to decide, clams or fish? Right now I'm leaning towards getting rid of the regal and scopas, two of the fish who I think are the culprits. But for now this is the solution:

Anyway as for the move we have a few days to do it so theres plenty of time for making extra water and such. Likely I'll have a couple of garbage cans of water at the new house, then move as much of the tank water as possible. I've done this plenty of times before (although most of the time its a move inside my own house or a tank teardown and restart), so I think I have it down to a science. The only thing I'm worried about is the heat. Its 30+ here and its only the beginning of june. The new house has a heat pump so that should keep things cool at least.

Good looking shield there, sometimes it is something so simple like that that can save clams.

I hear ya on the heat, LOL remember I am just across the pond from ya. Today was a doozie.

Its nice when you have time in a move. Our last move we had a three week over lap so it was a piece of cake.

Oh I totally agree. That was the only way to go for us and we made sure we had at least 2-3 days in between. It takes me almost a whole day just to get the tank moved and put back together. I can't imagine only having one day to move with a fish tank.

Hey Skinz! Yep I just moved the tank yesterday. Had some moving issues and I think the tank is going down the crapper due to temperature issues. I think some of the bacteria in the rock died off and the corals got too stressed out from the low temp (probly down to the low 70s or maybe lower) The livestock sat too long on a cold floor before we could get the tank moved. Some wicked RTN going on and the water is really cloudy. I'm going to try for a really large waterchange but the water isn't being made fast enough IMO. I should have diagnosed this right away. Oh well, hopefully I can save some stuff from it. This hobby can be incredibly frustrating sometimes

Other than that, the clams are doing well, one was peeking out from the little container and the fish were having a field day with it until I repositioned everyone.

Strangely enough since the tank move I haven't seen one fish peck at them ;)
