New bubble coral

Postby lemingz71 » Wed Jul 01, 2009 3:17 pm

Got a new bubble coral, and have noticed something growing on the bottom of it. Did a little searching, but to no avail. Any idea what it is. Safe, not safe??

Those are Manjano's, they are just like Aptasia's. They are bad, a type of Anemonie that travels arround the tank stinging other corals. You can get rid of them by injecting boiling RO/DI with a needle and syrenge.

I agree, they are Manjano's. There are about 100 reported ways to get rid of them but they dont all work for everyone. I think your bet bet is to remove the coral and the rock and chip away the rock from where they are attached.

Other methods are injecting them with vinegar, kalk, store products like joes juice ect.. but they dont always work.

These types of anemones will spread rapidly and kill anything they touch so the best bet IMO is to get rid of the whole thing, out of the tank. If you leave just one cell behind it can regenerate into a new one so even scraping it off may not get rid of them.

Yea they are a PIA I got a few. Joes juice will melt them if you get enough into its mouth. I also hear Lemon Juice will work if you inject it into its tissue. I would QT the rock to treat them. We have seen the devistation joe's juice can do to a clam.

what is this joe's juice stuff? Also, how can u inject them when they burrow into the rock if they are touched? I took it out of the tank and chipped away the rock where they were located, so hopefully I got them all, but will watch.

Newbie question on corals....how long should coral be QT? Should ur QT tank have a complete setup as in ur DT, or can u just have the basic items?

A QT tank does not have to be fancy. Heres a thread i did for clams but the same things apply for corals quick-easy-clam-qt-and-acclimation-t1911.html
