Hi all, I'm wanting to set-up a QT tank for clams and frags as well. I can figure out the tank and such but the lights are getting me. I do have (2) 250 watt MHs over my 55g but can I get away with using something else on the QT? I'd like to set up a small 10-20g tank for this purpose.

Thanks

hi grins welcome to ClamsDirect forums

yes you can use other types of light especially in a shallow tank like a 10gal. fluorescent lights should be fine, i wouldn't use actinics in a QT, actinics are for our viewing pleasure but do little to nothing for your clams and corals.

if you have a few fixtures in mind post links to them and we will help you choose a good one

I wasn't going to use actinics, I'm a newbie but not that much of a newbie. =)

I haven't looked at specific light units yet because I wanted some direction. When you say flourscents are you meaning the T5s? And if so should I get individual reflectors like I would advise in a display tank? I'd like to not spend a fortune on this but at the same time I want it to be appropriate for SPS and clams during QT.

yes T5's are flourescents and would be a good choice. you may not need the individual reflectors in such a shallow tank but if you can find a fixture that had them in your price range it couldn't hurt.

Thanks...a bunch! And hmmm I see new clams are being loaded into the store. Not sure I'll get the QT in time for this batch.
