Sand Star

I have several in my reef and was wondering why they are hanging on the glass? They'll almost go to the surface of the water and then drop down sometimes. This is a new behavior.I've had them for about two years and their quite large.

I've never had one, I wonder if they are looking for food?

Hmmm, does sound odd. They may be hungry, seastars have pretty big appetites, there may be a food shortage in the sand.

They do keep the sand pretty clean. Its been noted that they almost leave the sand sterile. I ran across a site that spoke of feeding them which is what came to mind because they do seem to be searching for something. My system has some old components, but it was enlarged about two years ago. I do run across many sand dwellers when I clean every other week. The research will continue. Thanks for the response.
