Re: suggestions on MH lights

I'd go with the Marineland Pro. It will bring out brighter colors in your coral. And having 4 actinics instead of two, means you can swap the bulbs out for other colors with more versatility, making a combination that really fits what you want.

Re: Shelf Life of Salt Water

No, it doesn't go bad. I've heard this before, and it appears to be based on nothing. If you let insects die in it and let it go stagnate, than yeah, that would make it go bad. But if you keep it sealed from dust and bugs and keep a pump in there to keep it from stagnating, then it will last indefin...

Re: Red Goniopora

Sounds nice, but I've never kept Goniopora, so I can't really offer tips.

Re: Coaralline Algae, a good spot as any to ask about it

I can't think of anything you haven't already thought of. I don't believe white algae is possible, well it's possible, but it would mean that it's bleached and about to die. The only thing I can say is try some Purple Up, it might work for you.

Re: How to tell if my montipora is healthy?

I should correct myself. Montipora polyps DO have tentacles, it's just that they are often inconspicuous making them look like a cup.

Re: How to tell if my montipora is healthy?

It sounds fine to me. I'm not sure why, but my Montipora corals sometimes have their polyps extended and look fuzzy, and other times they're all pulled in. I haven't found a pattern. The best way to tell if it's healthy is to see if it grows. If it's happy, it will grow. The polyps are also very sma...

Re: Hello All

LOL, yep, definitely a lot more guys that tend to be in this hobby. A built in overflow can be handy as it pretty much eliminates the possibility of flooding by having a siphon based overflow crap out, so they are advantageous in that respect. However, with a tank that size, make sure the overflow h...

Re: Hello All

The best skimmer you can get will likely come from Luke, he knows a lot about skimmers and makes only the best. I've heard nothing but accolades from happy customers. Here's his website http://www.shop.reeffiltration.com/main.sc . He'll also be happy to help you choose a good skimmer, even if it's n...

Re: baby 1/2 inch blue tang in 8 gallon biocube

You're fine, just as long as you upgrade to a substantially larger tank by the time it gets big. What size were you gonna upgrade to?

Re: Hello All

An in sump skimmer is one that actually sits in the water, these are the most common designs. Circulating into the sump I'm assuming means a skimmer that sits out of the water but draws from the sump and returns into the sump. I'd just stick with the in sump skimmer, they're quieter, easier to find,...

Re: What should I feed my Hermit Crab?

The species looks like Dardanus megistos, in which case it can potentially grow up to a foot! :shock2: All crabs eat meat, some eat algae as well, but they all eat meat. You don't need anything specific to feed it, just something that came from the ocean (i.e. clam, fish, squid, shrimp).

Re: Hello All

I would definitely set up the tank planning for what you'll want in the end. Fish can live well in a reef tank, but corals may not do so well in a fish tank, so plan ahead, it will save money and headaches. If I could make a suggestion for live rock, I'd stick with a more limited amount. The 3-5 lbs...

Re: Sea Cucumber ate firefish

Hmmm, odd. Hopefully the cucumber will pull thorough.......................and you find the firefish. I've had firefish go missing and never found them, they're very sneaky about that.
