Tank stand build

Postby Reefdaddy » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:42 pm

well this is the next step in the build process. This will be a layed out sytem that anyone can build. I am going to add some stuff to it, but the basic stand will be the focus. It will free of a center brace and a little larger then width then a standard 55 stand. I like to have space in the back to mount pumps for closed loops and such. Also I will be adding to side units to this so that it looks like wall unit. It have 3 main pieces, the stand included.
here is representation of what I plan on building.

The right side will hold the water resivoir for the auto top off, It will also hold a face mounting dashboard for my controls above the container holding the auto top off water.
Iam going to be starting part of this after the holidays are over. Any further ideas please post em. I am open to all ideas.

its just a representation of wall unit type, the white area is where the tank sets. The black is surrounding cabinets to hold equipment.

I like the entertainment center style stands. The only idea i would add would to make all access doors as large as you can. Ive made the mistake before of making then "that should be OK" and then found out that im not a contortionist.

Are you putting a refugium/sump anywhere? Interesting design, should be cool.

Oh for sure on the Fuge. Another reason why my depth of the stand is going to be larger then the tank. I want access. The entire front of the stand area will be removable and there will be no center brace on the front of the stand. this should allow me a much greater access to the equipment.

I feel your pain on the contortionist stuff. I have seen some real tight fits in my day and with my back the way it is the less I have bend and twist the better I am off.

Ok, Stand will be made of 2x4 and plywood. It contain my sump/fuge with proein skimmer and Klakwasser unit. All other equipment will housed in the cabinet on the sides. The top will be open with a hanging light unit over the top. It should be pretty neat and tighht looking, At least Iam hoping.

Yeah Iam looking forward to it as well, I have found 40 lbs of dead live rock here and will pick that up right after new year. It will be a good start. Iam gonna call Leroy Headley from GARF and have him send some Grunge to start live culturing this rock. One blue strip over the Rubber maid should do it. I want to get this started so I have live rock already set up to enter the tank when Iam done. But I will leave it till after the stand and cabinet build. The Rock will hold till I start my Protein Skimmer thread. Iam gonna need it to skim for me.
